Deadline reports that Emma Mackey is in final talks to star opposite Gordon in “Peaked,” a new comedy from Gordon over at A24. Along with acting and directing, Gordon also co-writes the film with Allie Levitan. Topic Studios, who previously worked with Gordon on “Theater Camp,” co-finances the film with A24.
So what’s “Peaked” about? As per Deadline, “the film follows two girls who traumatized you in high school as they try to relive their glory days at their 10-year reunion.” That sounds like a slight return to Maeve Wiley territory for Mackey; that character from the Netflix high school series “Sex Education” was her first acting gig, and her breakout role.
What else do we know about “Peaked”? David Hinojosa and Zach Nutman produce the film with Gordon through A24. Levitan will also executive produce the film. As for shooting dates, that’s inconclusive, but it should be this year, and they could hinge on whenever Mackey wraps her work as the White Witch on Greta Gerwig‘s first “Chronicles Of Narnia” movie.
Other recent roles for Mackey include James L. Brooks‘ “Ella McKay,” Julia Ducournau‘s “Alpha,” and JJ Abrams‘ upcoming fantasy film, “The Great Beyond.” As for Gordon, she still stars in “The Bear,” and has “The Sheep Detectives” on the way.
Stay tuned for more details on “Peaked” as they arrive.
