‘The Heidi Fleiss Story’: Alana Haim In Talks To Star Opposite Aubrey Plaza In Upcoming Dark Comedy

Another day, another buzzy casting for rock star turned actress Alana Haim. Deadline reports that the “One Battle After Another” and “The Mastermind” actress is in talks to star opposite Aubrey Plaza in “The Heidi Fleiss Story,” an upcoming dark comedy about the infamous Hollywood Madam. And to be honest, that duo sounds like an electric onscreen pairing for a project like this.

Plaza as Fleiss, the infamous LA panderer, is already inspired casting, but Haim’s brusque energy will bring a whole other level of acerbic wit to the biopic. Set in 1993 Los Angeles, “The Heidi Fleiss Story” follows Fleiss in the aftermath of her arrest for running the largest high-end prostitution ring in the world. Scrambling to get the case dropped, Fleiss hires a young writer, played by Haim, who wants the real story, while Fleiss is desperate for any leverage she can muster.

“The Heidi Fleiss Story” marks the feature directorial debut of Leah Rachel, who helms a script by Travis Jackson and Rachel Sennott. Jessamine Burgum and Kara Durett produce the pic via Pinky Promise, with Plaza also producing through her Evil Hag Production banner. Sennott is another notable name to mention here. The comedic actress is on the rise, with her HBO series “I Love LA” premiering this Sunday. If that project doesn’t make Sennott’s Hollywood star ascendent, this project and “The Moment,” Charli xcx‘s upcoming film at A24 that the actress also stars in, surely will.

But let’s get back to Alana Haim, who’s having a banner 2025. Along with her supporting roles in Paul Thomas Anderson‘s and Kelly Reichardt‘s latest films, Haim’s band Haim, with sisters Este and Danielle, also released “I Quit,” their fourth studio album, in June. Haim’s breakout screen role came in 2021’s “Licorice Pizza,” which nabbed her nods at the Golden Globes, the BAFTAs, and the Critics’ Choice Awards. She stars next in Kristoffer Borgli‘s “The Drama” at A24 opposite Zendaya and Robert Pattinson.

If Haim signs on for “The Heidi Fleiss Story,” then expect it to be one of 2026’s buzzier late-year theatrical releases. Plaza, Haim, and Sennott all bring very particular energies, and if that combo works well, this comedy may end up a dark horse for critics’ annual top 10 lists next December.
