Director Francis Lawrence has a knack for adapting novels to the big screen, including”The Long Walk,” “Red Sparrow,” “I Am Legend,” and, of course, his “The Hunger Games” films. Now Lionsgate wants Lawrence to do it again, this time for a book that hasn’t even hit stores yet.

Deadline reports that the studio snagged the rights to “Carry Me To My Grave,” an upcoming thriller novel from NYT-bestselling author Christopher Golden, and they’re eying Lawrence to adapt it for the big screen. If Lawrence indeed signs on, he’ll also produce the pic as part of his first-look deal with the studio. Given the director’s history with Lionsgate, this one sounds like a done deal, and would be his next film after “The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping,” which hits theaters on November 20.
But what’s “Carry Me To My Grave” about? The book (and film) follows a man trying to protect his dead mother’s body from the evil that’s hunting it. So, something closer to the supernatural thrills of “I Am Legend” than anything else in Lawrence’s filmography. St. Martin’s Press release Golden’s novel in bookstores on July 21.
Cameron Maconomy will also produce “Carry Me To My Grave,” as well as Scott Glassgold via 12:01 Films. Golden and Peter Donaldson are also on board as executive producers, with Meredith Wieck and Pavan Kalidindi overseeing for Lionsgate.
“Carry Me To My Grave” is one of several Golden works in development for feature films right now. “Road Of Bones” and “The House Of Last Resort” are already in the pipeline, with Scott Derrickson directing the first via Sony, and Amazon MGM Studios adapting the latter. Golden has some screenplay experience, too: he co-wrote two recent “Hellboy” films, the 2019 film starring David Harbour, and 2024’s “The Crooked Man.”
