‘Three Incestuous Sisters’: Mick Jagger Joins Alice Rohrwacher’s Latest, Joins Josh O’Connor, Dakota Johnson, Jessie Buckley & More

Here’s an intriguing addition to a most anticipated film: Variety reports that Mick Jagger has joined the cast of Alice Rohrwacher‘s upcoming “Three Incestuous Sisters.” He joins the previously announced Josh O’Connor, Dakota Johnson, Saoirse Ronan, Jessie Buckley, and Isabella Rossellini. It’s Rohrwacher’s follow-up to 2023’s “La Chimera,” also starring O’Connor and Rossellini.

The Italian press confirmed Jagger’s involvement in the film after The Rolling Stones singer landed on the Sicilian island of Stromboli via helicopter earlier this week, where Rohrwacher is currently shooting “Three Incestuous Sisters.” As for who Jagger plays? His role is a lighthouse keeper and father to O’Connor’s central character, whose sudden, erotically-charged arrival in an isolated household pits three sisters against each other.

Rohrwacher adapts Audrey Niffenegger‘s illustrated novel for her latest film, but expect a looser-than-loose adaptation that takes several liberties with the source material. Word has it that Rohrwacher also worked with novelist Ottessa Moshfegh on the project’s adapted screenplay, a team-up that should hint at the tone and atmopshere of this gothic drama.

Indian Paintbrush finances and produces “Three Incestuous Sisters,” with Steven Rales leading via the banner. Johnson and Ro Donnelly also produces the film through Johnson’s TeaTime Pictures, as well as Rohrwacher.

Fans of Jagger know he’s no stranger to movie roles, although his most notable onscreen parts were much earlier in his career. Co-starring opposite James Fox in Donald Cammell and Nicolas Roeg‘s “Performance” is by far the most significant, but other highlights include “Ned Kelly,” “Freejack,” and “The Man From Elysian Fields.” His last film role came in 2019, as wealthy art dealer Jack Cassidy in the noirish “The Burnt Orange Heresy.” Meanwhile, The Rolling Stones have a new album out on July 10, titled “Foreign Tongues.”

Given Rohrwacher’s history at the Cannes Film Festival (“La Chimera” competed there, while “The Wonders” won two awards at the 2014 festival, and “Happy As Lazzaro” bowed there in 2018), expect “Three Incestuous Sisters” to have its world premiere on the Croisette next year.
