J.J. Abrams’ first movie since “The Rise Of Skywalker” now has an official release date.
THR reports that Warner Bros. will release Abrams’ “The Great Beyond” in theaters on November 13 in an announcement that also officially confirms the blockbuster’s name change from the original “Ghostwriter.” Glen Powell leads the cast of the fantasy film, with Jenna Ortega, Emma Mackey, Sophie Okonedo, Merritt Wever, and Samuel L. Jackson rounding out the main ensemble. No plot details yet, but stay tuned for those and a teaser for the film soon.
Day-and-dating “The Great Beyond” also prompted Warner Bros. to shuffle Sam Esmail‘s upcoming thriller “Panic Carefully” forward in their calendar. That film now lands in theaters on February 26, 2027. Julia Roberts, Eddie Redmayne, Joe Alwyn, Brian Tyree Henry, Ben Chaplin, Aidan Gillen, Elizabeth Olsen, and Naledi Murray star in the film, which Esmail writes, directs, and produces with Roberts. It’s the second straight film Esmail and Roberts work on together, after 2023’s “Leave The World Behind.”
Elsewhere, Warner Bros. also added a new installment of “The Conjuring” franchise to their future releases, with a theatrical release set for September 10, 2027. No surprise there: James Wan and Peter Safran‘s horror franchise is the most commercially successful one ever with “Last Rites,” the most recent film in it, becoming its highest-grossing entry. Rodrigue Huart will direct a script by Richard Naing and Ian Goldberg for the upcoming sequel, subtitled “First Communion.” Given that name, one surmises the formula for these movies has not changed.
Lastly, Tim Miller will finally return to the director’s chair for his first film since 2019’s “Terminator: Dark Fate.” What’s next for the man behind 2016’s “Deadpool“? An untitled sci-fi movie starring Keanu Reeves; so, something right in his wheelhouse. Miller will direct a script by Ian Shorr for this one, with Warner Bros. dating the film for an August 13, 2027 theatrical release.
