‘Scream 7’ Trailer: A New Ghostface Burns It All Down On February 27, 2026

Let’s not rehash the calamity that delayed “Scream 7” by over a year, shall we? Or maybe let’s do. First, Spyglass Media, the parent company for the slasher franchise, fired its new scream queen, Melissa Barrera, in November 2023 after the actress posted pro-Palestinian tweets on social media. Jenna Ortega then exited the sequel shortly afterward, citing issues in her acting schedule. The dominoes kept falling, however, with director Christopher Landon dropping out of the project the next month, calling “Scream 7” a “dream job turned nightmare.”

Of course, Spyglass couldn’t let its prized franchise, coming off its most lucrative sequel yet in 2023’s “Scream VI,” fall apart from a little (self-inflicted) controversy. By March 2024, original “Scream” screenwriter Kevin Williamson was on board to direct the film, with Neve Campbell also returning after sitting out “Scream VI” to return as Sidney Prescott. So, not the full-fledged creative reset fans feared, but also a very safe way to get their butts back in theater seats.

Then again, the “Scream” franchise has always been meta piled upon meta piled upon meta, right? The new trailer for “Scream 7,” linked below, promises even more of that, with the original Woodsboro house now a B&B, and Sidney’s daughter the target of a new Ghostface killer.

Here’s and official synopsis for “Scream 7,” courtesy of Spyglass Media:

When a new Ghostface killer emerges in the quiet town where Sidney Prescott has built a new life, her darkest fears are realized as her daughter becomes the next target. Determined to protect her family, Sidney must face the horrors of her past to put an end to the bloodshed once and for all.

Along with Campbell, “Scream 7” also stars Courteney Cox, Isabel May, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Anna Camp, Joel McHale, Mckenna Grace, Michelle Randolph, Jimmy Tatro, Asa Germann, Celeste O’Connor, Sam Rechner, Ethan Embry, Tim Simons, and Mark Consuelos.

As noted earlier Williams directs “Scream 7,” and also co-writes the film’s script with Gary Busick. Busick co-writes the sequel’s story with James Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt leads producer with William Sherak and Paul Neinstein.

So, will “Scream 7” continue the box office success of “Scream VI,” or will the controversies surrounding this sequel tank its prospects? Find out when the slasher hits theaters on February 27, 2026. Watch the new trailer for “Scream 7” below.
