Deadline has news about another title headed to the Cannes Market next month: a psychological thriller starring Carrie Coon, Ben Platt, and Lukas Gage.
The trio will star in “I Am Not Your Mother,” with “The Skeleton Twins” director Craig Johnson helming a script by him and Ryan O’Connell. Here’s a brief logline, via the outlet: “Ollie (Platt), a young, queer director with a murky past, becomes fixated on Nora Dresden (Coon), an iconic actress in search of her comeback. When she agrees to star in his debut feature, admiration turns to obsession, and their collaboration spirals into a toxic game of control, blurring the line between artist and muse.”
Mister Smith Entertainment, the banner launching international sales for the title on the Croissette, described the project as a “twisted and darkly funny psychological thriller.” We’ll see in May who’s interested in it.
Here’s what else we know about “I Am Not Your Mother”: Jared Ian Goldman and Zola Elgart Glassman produce via Mighty Engine; and Chris Quintos and Tyler Boehm co-finance via Unapologetic Projects along with Naia Cucokov and Peter Richards via Working Barn Productions.
“I Am Not Your Mother” will be Johnson’s first film since last year’s “The Parenting.” “The Skeleton Twins,” co-starring Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig, remains the high-water mark of the director’s career, as it won the Waldo Salt Award at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival, and was also nominated for that fest’s Grand Jury Prize. Here’s a press statement from Johnson about his upcoming film: “I am thrilled to be collaborating with Carrie, Ben and Lukas and my friends at Mighty Engine, Mister Smith, Unapologetic and Working Barn on this deranged and delicious film, written in a passionate fever with my dear friend, Ryan O’Connell. Get ready for a fierce, funny and blood-spattered good time at the movies.”
As for the film’s main actors, Coon is coming off of “The White Lotus” Season 3, and has the movie “Harmonia” on the way. Meanwhile, Platt recently starred in Ryan Murphy‘s “The Beauty” and stars in the movie “The Technique” next; the latter is filming now. And Gage, another alum of “The White Lotus,” has a busy 2026: three films (“People We Meet On Vacation,” “Rosebush Pruning,” and “Love Language“), with possibly two more (“Samo Lives,” “Clashing Through The Snow“) reaching audiences this year, too.
