Now here’s a dynamic team-up. Variety reports that Mary Bronstein has her first project after “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You” ready over at Apple: a limited dramedy series starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Cecily Strong. Those three working together is buzzyworthy enough, but it’s what the show will be based on that’s most intriguing.

Bronstein will write, direct, and serve as showrunner on “The Nanny Squatter,” inspired by the 2025 New York Magazine article of the same name by Bindu Bansinath. A logline for the series says it “centers on a couple whose lives are upended after welcoming a seemingly ideal caregiver into their home, only to find boundaries blurred and control slipping as the arrangement spirals into a tense, unsettling power struggle.” Louis-Dreyfus and Strong will also executive produce the series, with Bronstein also executive producing with Scoop Wasserstein via Vox Media Studios and NY Mag. Apple Studios produces.
“The Nanny Squatter” is a big project for Bronstein, who’s coming off of one of 2025’s better-reviewed films in “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.” A24 released the film in theaters in October after acquiring distribution rights following its acclaimed Sundance 2025 world premiere. The movie has awards season legs, too. Rose Byrne won a Golden Globe for her lead role and is up for Best Actress at the Oscars for her performance. Obviously, Apple wants to capitalize on Bronstein’s stock, and teaming her up with Louis-Dreyfus and Strong is a sure bet for success.
Of course, Louis-Dreyfus needs no introduction when it comes to comedic TV. The “Seinfeld,” “The New Adventures Of Old Christine” and “Veep” alum is an 11-time Emmy winner, with 26 Emmy nods over her career; that includes six wins for Best Actress In A Comedy in a row for “Veep.” The actress also recently starred in “Thunderbolts*” as her recurring MCU character Valentina Allegra de Fontaine.
Meanwhile, Louis-Dreyfus’ fellow “SNL” alum Strong most noteworthy recent TV credit is the Apple TV+ musical comedy “Schmigadoon.” Recent films for her include “Garfield: The Movie” and “Zootopia 2.” Strong also received two Emmy nods for her work on “SNL,” in 2020 and 2021, respectively.
Expect Bronstein to start shooting “The Nanny Squatter” later this year, with a 2027 premiere on Apple TV+ in the cards.
