Jeremy Strong‘s immediate on-screen future is already foretold: James Gray‘s “Armageddon Time” hits theaters on October 28, and Season 4 of HBO‘s “Succession” is in production. But thanks to a new interview in The Hollywood Reporter (via IndieWire), the actor’s more distant upcoming projects are also coming into focus. And Strong looks to continue his hot streak on TV with two new limited series.
First up, Strong teams up with Dede Gardner of Brad Pitt‘s Plan B Entertainment: a limited series for Amazon Prime Video about the Boeing 737 Max crashes that resulted in 346 deaths. Strong will play an airplane engineer inspired by the real Boeing team that worked on the model. The upcoming series continues Strong’s relationship with Plan B, which started with “Selma” and “The Big Short.”
The second limited series is a “‘Chernobyl‘-esque” show about the cancers and lasting health issues of 9/11 first responders. BAFTA winner Tobias Lindholm, behind “The Good Nurse” and “Another Round,” writes and directs the series. No other actors are attached to either series at the moment.
Strong is a hot commodity thanks to his performance on “Succession.” Whether that show ends after season four or a fifth season remains to be seen, but its denouement, whenever it happens, propelled Gardner to sign Strong to the Boeing drama. “A lot of it is anticipating what happens when ‘Succession’ is over,” Gardner told THR. “We both envision a big constellation of co-efforts.”
Known for his immersive acting style, both limited series feel like choices right in Strong’s wheelhouse. “‘There are two things I’m always searching for, which is the possibility of transformation, and the possibility of risk,” the actor told THR. “I guess anything else feels a bit like a bunny slope.”
But before these newly announced projects, Strong still needs to finish his work on “Succession.” Expect Season 4 of the series to premiere next year.
