'Anything's Possible' Trailer: Billy Porter's Directorial Debut Is A Teen Trans Rom-Com

Billy Porter has always been a trailblazer. He won a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album for “Kinky Boots.” He’s the first gay black man to be nominated and win a Primetime Emmy in any top category for his role in “Pose” (a role that also nabbed him three Golden Globe noms). And you can credit him for helping assimilate LGBTQ themes into popular film and television in the last two decades.

That trend continues with Porter’s directorial feature debut: “Anything’s Possible,” a rom-com that tackles trans identity and teen love in a high school setting. Kelsa’s a trans high school senior, and Khal’s her classmate who grows a crush on her. Will the pair have the fortitude to deal with the drama when Khal finally asks Kelsa out?

Here’s the official synopsis from Amazon Prime:

Anything’s Possible is a delightfully modern Gen Z coming-of-age story that follows Kelsa, a confident high school girl who is trans, as she navigates through senior year. When her classmate Khal gets a crush on her, he musters up the courage to ask her out, despite the drama he knows it could cause. What transpires is a romance that showcases the joy, tenderness, and pain of young love.

“Anything’s Possible” stars Eva Reign, Abubakr Ali, with Reneé Elise Goldsberry, Courtnee Carter, and Kelly Lamor WilsonGrant Reynolds, Caroline Traver, and Lav Raman round out the main cast.

Porter directs a script by Ximena García Lecuona. Lecuona also writes the screenplay for the upcoming “The Kiss List.”

Let’s hope “Anything’s Possible” elevates itself beyond the usual rom-com trappings for a sincere look at trans identity. The movie hits Amazon Prime Video on July 22. Check out the trailer below.
