‘Victorian Psycho’ Teaser: Zach Wigon’s Period Thriller Starring Maika Monroe Has Cannes World Premiere Today, Hits Theaters On September 25

Zach Wigon had his cinematic breakout in 2022 at the Toronto International Film Festival with “Sanctuary,” a kinky back-and-forth chamber drama that helped launch Margaret Qualley into further stardom. Now he’s back with his follow-up, “Victorian Psycho,” which premieres today at the Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard section.

“Victorian Psycho” was originally supposed to star Qualley, too, but Maika Monroe is in the lead role for this one. Good thing, too: horror veteran Monroe is a perfect fit for the film’s central character Winifred Notty, a young governess who harbors some peculiar (and violent) tendencies…

Here’s an official synopsis for the film, courtesy of Bleecker Street:

An eccentric governess arrives at a remote gothic manor, where strange happenings stir suspicions that she’s not what she seems.

Along with Monroe, Wigon’s film also stars Jason Isaacs, Ruth Wilson, Thomas Mackenzie, Amy De Brúhn, Jacobi Jupe, and Evie Templeton.

Wigon directs Victoria Feito‘s adapted screenplay of her own novel for “Victorian Psycho.” Producers on the film include Wigon, Dan Kagan, Sébastian Raybaud, and Nick Schumaker.

“Victorian Psycho” hits theaters on September 25. Watch the first teaser for the film below
