'HPI': Drew Goddard's Next Project Is An Adaptation Of French Detective Series For ABC

When he’s not making films like “The Cabin In The Woods” or “Bad Times At The El Royale,” Drew Goddard puts his signature on TV shows of all kinds. And over the years, he’s left his mark on shows as diverse as “Alias,” “Lost,” “Daredevil,” and “The Good Place.” Now he looks to do it again with ABC and a pilot of a French detective series the network picked up the rights to last week.

Variety reports that Goddard and ABC will join forces for “HPI,” an English language adaptation of the French TV series of the same name. The show follows a single mom with an uncanny intellectual ability and a seasoned detective who team up to solve crimes. Here’s the official logline for the series:

A single mom with three kids and an exceptional mind helps solve an unsolvable crime when she rearranges some evidence during her shift as a cleaner for the police department. When they discover she has a knack for putting things in order because of her high intellectual potential she is brought on as a consultant to work with a by-the-book seasoned detective, and together they form an unusual and unstoppable team.

Godard will write and executive produce the series under his Goddard Textiles banner. The original series is a big hit continentally, with a Czech and Slovakian remake of the French series already filimed.

It’s not unusual for Goddard to get attached to this remake series. He’s an accomplished screenwriter, having worked on scripts for “Cloverfield,” “World War Z,” and “The Martian,” but Goddard has arguably had more impact on the industry through his work on TV. Don’t be surprised if “HPI” takes off in popularity like “Alias,” “Angel,” or “Lost.”
