Daniel Day-Lewis is undoubtedly one of his generation’s finest cinematic actors, and perhaps one of the best of all time. So his coming out of retirement (something he claims he never intended to do) to star in his first film since 2017’s “Phantom Thread” should be a huge deal for even the most casual of film fans. After all, it’s not every day that a great returns to the big screen.

So will Day-Lewis’ return to moviemaking live up to the hype? NYFF audiences will find out when “Anemone,” directed by the actor’s sons, premieres later this month. But don’t worry, general audience members: the film hits theaters shortly afterward.

ANEMONE explores the complex and profound ties that exist between brothers, fathers, and sons.
Along with Day-Lewis, “Anemone” also stars Sean Bean, Samantha Morton, Samuel Bottomley, and Safia Oakley-Green.
Ronan Day-Lewis directs “Anemone,” and co-writes the film with his father. Producers on the film include Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner. Executive producers include Daniel Day-Lewis and Brad Pitt.
“Anemone” has its world premiere at the New York Film Festival on September 28. The film then hits select theaters on October 3 before opening nationwide on October 10. Watch the new trailer for the film below.
