'Twisters': Daisy Edgar-Jones The First To Join Cast Of Amblin & Universal's Upcoming Sequel

What’s next for Daisy Edgar-Jones after “Normal People,” “Fresh,” and “Where The Crawdads Sing“? It looks like a big-budget sequel. Deadline reports that Edgar-Jones is the first to join the cast of “Twisters,” Amblin Entertainment and Universal‘s upcoming follow-up to their 1996 hit.

A bit of a surprise here? Maybe, maybe not, as Edgar-Jone’s “Normal People” co-star Paul Mescal has a studio tentpole of his own coming up in “Gladiator 2.” Such is the way of the business. And numbers-wise, “Twister” has Ridley Scott‘s 2000 film beat at the box office, $494 million to $460.6 million; so, maybe something of a rivalry brewing between the acting pair with their upcoming projects.

Edgar-Jones’ other recent work includes the Hulu limited series “Under The Banner Of Heaven,” for which she received a Golden Globe nomination. She’s also filming an adaptation of “On Swift Horses” now with Jacob ElordiWill PoulterDiego Calva, and Sasha Calle.  Daniel Manihan helms that project.

As for “Twisters,” Lee Isaac Chung will direct a script by Mark L. Smith.  Warner Bros. co-backs the film financially with Amblin and Universal.  Sara Scott and Jacqueline Garell co-produce through Universal, with Ashley Jay Sandberg overseeing through Kennedy/Marshall.

No other casting news for “Twisters” yet, but expect more as it approaches production later this year.
