Several notable films that debuted at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival hit US theaters this Fall, but none may be more anticipated than Harris Dickinson‘s “Urchin.” Dickinson’s feature directorial debut came out of nowhere to surprise critics and audiences back in May, and the film collected a couple awards in the process.

Now it’s time for American audience to see what all the fuss is about when “Urchin” hits theaters next month. Starring Frank Dillane, the film is a propulsive portrait of life on the margins, about a young London drifter’s gradual descent into oblivion.
Here’s an official synopsis for “Urchin,” courtesy of 1-2 Special:
On the streets of London, Mike is hustling to get by. Roadside evangelizers won’t let him sleep in peace, his slippery friend won’t pay up the money he stole, and before long, he finds himself in trouble with the law. As he struggles to reintegrate into society, shuffling between gigs as a line cook and a trash collector, he must balance a newfound sense of community with his own itch for self-destruction.
Along with Dillane, “Urchin” also stars Megan Northam, Amr Waked, Shonagh Marie, and Karyna Khymchuk.
Dickinson writes “Urchin” along with directing it. Producers on the film include Archie Pearch and Scott O’Donnell.
As noted earlier, “Urchin” had its world premiere at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival to strong reviews. Dickinson won the FIPRESCI prize at the festival for the film, while Dillane was awarded Best Actor in the Un Certain Regard section.
“Urchin” hits US theaters on October 10. Watch a trailer for the film below.
