Got a Tip?

‘Fuze’: Aaron Taylor-Johnson & ‘Outlaw King’ Director David Mackenzie To Reunite For Upcoming Heist Thriller

Will Aaron Taylor-Johnson be the next James Bond? As speculation on that casting continues, the “Kraven The Hunter” actor has a new upcoming picture: “Fuze,” which sees him reunite with director David Mackenzie.

But “Fuze” isn’t a medieval period piece like 2018’s “Outlaw King.” Instead, Mackenzie will direct Taylor-Johnson in a contemporary heist thriller set in London. The set-up goes as follows: when an unexploded WWII bomb gets discovered on a construction site, it becomes the perfect cover for a robbery. It’s unclear whether Taylor-Johnson leads the heist or is after the team behind it, but he’s the only actor attached to the film right now. “Inside” screenwriter Ben Hopkins pens the script for “Fuze,” so maybe expect a more unconventional heist movie because of that.

Gillian Berries, who co-founded the Sigma Films banner with Mackenzie, leads the producing team on “Fuze” with Sebastian Raybaud and Callum Grant. The upcoming thriller also sees Giles Nuttgens return as Mackenzie’s director of photography after the two worked together on 2016’s “Hell Or High Water.”

“Tension is one of the purest emotions that cinema can create,” Mackenzie said about “Fuze” in a press statement for the film. “I had the idea of combining all the high stakes of an unexploded bomb with that of a bank robbery – clashing these two genres to create as much pressure as possible -in a context that feels as real as possible. Ben Hopkins took those ingredients and cooked up the compelling script that we are now taking into production.” Added Berrie: “Together David Mackenzie and DP, Giles Nuttgens are dynamos. Just add Aaron Taylor-Johnson and we have the Midas touch for this whirlwind movie. I cannot wait!”

No word on when “Fuze” starts shooting, but expect it to get a 2025 theatrical release.
