Oct 22, 2024 Update: Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, Charles Melton, and Cailee Spaeny are all confirmed for the second season of Netflix’s “Beef.”
Netflix and A24 have some serious star power in mind for Beef Season 2. Deadline reports that Oscar Isaac (“Scenes From A Marriage,” “Inside Llewyn Davis”) and Carey Mulligan (“Promising Young Woman,” “Maestro”) are in talks to star in the next season of the anthology series. And if the pair get cast, they’ll play one of two couples who get into an increasingly crazy feud.

If Isaac and Mulligan make the cut, they may square off against Charles Melton (“May December, Warfare”) and Cailee Spaeny (“Priscilla,” “Civil War,” “Alien: Romulus”), who were in talks to play the other couple. But there’s no confirmation about their casting, nor is it clear whether Isaac and Mulligan are up for the parts Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway were rumored to be in talks for. Netflix has no comment on any casting, and “Beef” Season 2 still doesn’t have an official greenlight, so take this new with a healthy skepticism.
Still, a new season of “Beef” would be a coup for Isaac, who’s back in the limelight after a few years away from acting. But Issac has some other work already lined up for his return. The actor recently finished work on Julian Schnabel’s “In The Hand Of Dante,” and he’s currently shooting Guillermo del Toro’s “Frankenstein,” in the role of Doctor Frankenstein. And Isaac dabbled in the limited series format before his onscreen hiatus, co-starring in HBO’s “Scenes From A Marriage” opposite Jessica Chastain.
As for Mulligan, she’d be ready to sink her fangs in a nervy part after her 2020’s “Promising Young Woman.” But the actress has had several premier roles since then, including “Maestro,” “The Dig,” and Emerald Fennell’s sophomore film “Saltburn.” If Mulligan gets cast in “Beef,” it’ll be her biggest TV role to date. Up next for the actress? Netflix’s “Spaceman” with Adam Sandler and “The Ballad Of Wallace Island.”
“Beef” Season 1, starring Steven Yeun and Ali Wong, was a critical darling, winning eight Emmys and three Golden Globes. So, needless to say, there are great expectations for the next season. But let’s wait and see if this casting news is for real; if Season 2 isn’t even greenlit yet, then isn’t it a little early to cast Isaac and Mulligan? Whatever the case, the two will make a great pairing (and it’ll be a “Drive” reunion). Stay tuned for more on “Beef” in the coming weeks.
