The 50th edition of the Toronto International Film Festival kicks off today, with several buzzy titles set for world premiere both in and out of competition. Among them? How about a documentary about one of Hollywood’s most beloved comedic talents: the late, great John Candy?

Directed by Colin Hanks and produced by Ryan Reynolds, “John Candy: I Like Me” explores the life and career of the Canadian comedic actor, with new interviews with some of his closest friend and co-stars.

From director Colin Hanks and lifelong John Candy fan Ryan Reynolds comes John Candy: I Like Me, an exploration of the life of the Canadian comedic icon. This John Candy film documents his on- and off-camera existence, featuring never-before-seen home videos, intimate access to his family, and candid recollections from collaborators to paint a bigger picture of one of the brightest stars of the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s. It’s the story of a son, husband, father, friend, and professional driven to bring joy to audiences and loved ones while battling personal ghosts and Hollywood pressures.
“John Candy: I Like Me” includes interviews with several of the actor’s old friends and colleagues, including Dan Aykroyd, Catherine O’Hara, Steve Martin, Tom Hanks, Martin Short, Eugene Levy, and Macaulay Culkin.
Other producers on “John Candy: I Like Me” beyond Hanks and Reynolds include Sean Stuart, Glen Zipper, George Dewey, Johnny Pariseau, and Shane Reid. Executive producers on the pictures include Ashley Fox and Patrick Gooing, with Chris Candy, Jennifer Candy-Sullivan, and Rosemary Candy on board as co-executive producers.
