Amanda Seyfried has starred in several TV series in recent years, including “The Dropout,” “Long Bright River,” and “The Crowded Room.” Now, via Deadline, she’s set to star in another, albeit one that’s shifted around various streamers over the past six years.
So what show is the “Testament Of Ann Lee” actress attached to? That would be a series adaptation of Carl Hiaasen‘s 2004 novel “Skinny Dip,” with Amazon developing it for Prime Video. Seyfried will star as Joey Perrone, a woman whose second anniversary doesn’t go exactly as planned. Instead of a romantic cruise, Chaz, her marine scientist husband pushes her off the cruise liner, an attempted murder Joey miraculously survives. Deadset on revenge, Joey teams up with a former cop to make Chaz pay.
That sounds like a juice role Seyfried could sink her teeth into, if the show indeed forges ahead as planned. Why the skepticism there? Well, because Amazon is now the fourth home for an adaptation of Hiaasen’s novel in six years. HBO originally planned to adapt it in 2011 before The CW took over in 2018, then Quibi in 2019, before the novel cycled back to HBO Max last year. The latest rendition at Amazon sees “Once Upon A Time” creators Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis attached as executive producers, along with “Scrubs” creator Bill Lawrence. It’s worth nothing here Lawrence produces another Hiaasen adaptation, of his 2013 novel “Bad Monkey,” over at Apple TV+. Other executive producers include Jeff Ingold, Liza Katzer, Seyfried, and Hiaasen.
In addition to “Skinny Dip” and “Bad Monkey,” ABC has another Hiassen adaptation: “RJ Decker,” starring Scott Speedman. That one’s based on the 1987 novel “Double Whammy.”
Other upcoming projects for Seyfried include “The Housemaid” opposite Sydney Sweeney, “The Life And Deaths Of Wilson Shedd,” and voice work on “Ted: The Animated Series.” Oh, and there’s “Mamma Mia 3“ in the works, too, but that hasn’t been officially greenlit yet. Expect the actress to receive awards consideration this winter for her work on “The Testament Of Ann Lee.”
As noted earlier, given the history of “Skinny Dip,” let’s not assume this series is a done deal; but if it moves forward, expect it to premiere on Prime Video in late 2026/early 2027.
