KJ Apa, Hollywood star? In a manner of speaking, yes, as the former “Riverdale” actor stars as one in his biggest film role yet in “Jimmy,” an upcoming biopic about Jimmy Stewart.

The biopic centers on a specific period of Stewart’s life: when he enlisted in the Air Corps at the start of WWII, bringing his ascendant Hollywood career to a halt. A courageous decision, to be sure, but one that may not prove as impactful if Apa fails to pull off Stewart’s signature accent. And based on the new teaser for “Jimmy,” Apa’s rendition sounds a little shaky (and the rest of the production looks just as flimsy)…
Here’s an official synopsis for “Jimmy,” courtesy of Burns & Co.:
JIMMY, the untold true story of America’s most beloved actor and the iconic role that saved him, focuses on the most transformative season in Jimmy Stewart’s life—from winning the Academy Award® for Best Actor in The Philadelphia Story to enlisting and becoming a combat pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps at the beginning of World War II. He flew twenty missions over Europe, rising to the rank of colonel by the end of the war, only to return home broken and disheartened. Then George Bailey and It’s a Wonderful Life came calling…
Along with Apa, the biopic also stars Kara Killmer, Neal McDonough, Max Casella, Jason Alexander, Christopher McDonald, Sarah Drew, Rob Riggle, Julian Works, and Jen Lilley.
Aaron Burns directs a script by Justin Strawhand for “Jimmy.” Producers on the film include Burns, Strawhand, David Cook, Angela Galgani Sullivan, Jack McClintock, and John Norton.
“Jimmy” doesn’t arrive in theaters until November 6, 2026, but check out the teaser below in any case.
