Who’s next to join Matt Damon and Sandra Oh on the cast sheet of the Daniels‘ upcoming event pic at Universal? Deadline reports that it’s Charles Melton, although who the actor will play, much like pretty much everything else about this project, remains under wraps for now.
Secrecy aside, the role is a big get for Melton, who’s swiftly becoming one of Hollywood’s fastest-rising stars. The “Riverdale” alum is coming off of “Beef” Season 2 on Netflix, and has Nicolas Winding Refn‘s new film “Her Private Hell” in theaters next month, on July 24. Also on the way for Melton: Chicago-set romance “Saturn Return” with Rachel Brosnahan and Will Poulter, also at Netflix.
But back to the Daniels and their follow-up to “Everything Everywhere All At Once.” Everything about Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert‘s next movie remains shrouded in secrecy, with only the recent castings and its November 19, 2027 release date official at this point. Kwan, Scheinert, and Jonathan Wang also produce the pic via their Playgrounds banner, with Sara Scott and Jacqueline Garell overseeing the film for Universal.
Given the massive success of their previous film, the Daniels’ next movie is one of the most anticipated projects in Hollywood right now. “Everything Everywhere All At Once” won seven Oscars total, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Film Editing. The movie was also A24‘s highest-grossing film for a few years, too, before “Marty Supreme” and “Backrooms” recently surpassed its $147 million global box office gross. Those accolades guarantee full creative control for the Daniels on this project, but also supply high expectations for Universal for this film to be an awards season favorite in 2027. We’ll see if that comes to pass.
Stay tuned for more details on the Daniels’ latest as they arrive.
