'A Different Man': Take A Look At Sebastian Stan's Stunning Transformation For The New A24 Film

Sebastian Stan made a splash in the indie film pool earlier this year as a man with peculiar appetites in “Fresh.”  Mimi Cave‘s debut polarized audiences at Sundance in January, then Hulu subscribers on March 4. However, Stan must have loved the experience on “Fresh,” as he’s acting in not one but two upcoming A24 films. That’s quite a change of pace for the Winter Soldier after so many Marvel appearances.

One of those A24 films, “A Different Man,” stars Stan as a man with neurofibromatosis who undergoes facial reconstructive surgery only to become obsessed with the actor who plays him in a play about his life. Sound a little complicated? Well, Stan complicated things further earlier this week when, as Variety reports, the actor showed off his look for the movie on an Instagram post. Stan is unrecognizable underneath a stunning display of prosthetics work. And it clues moviegoers to what they should expect out of “A Different Man”: a different Sebastian Stan entirely.  This blows his transformation in Tommy Lee in “Pam & Tommy” out of the water.

Stan confirmed on Instagram that SFX wizard Mike Marino is behind his shocking transformation for the film. Marino garnered much acclaim earlier this year for his prosthetic work on Colin Farrell for his role as The Penguin in Matt Reeves‘ “The Batman.” Other recent Marino credits include “The Irishman” and “Joker.”

“Chained For Life” director Aaron Schimberg writes and directs “A Different Man,” his second film in a row about disfigured men. “The Worst Person In The World” star Renate Reinsve and “Under The Skin” actor Adam Pearson are also in the upcoming film.

Stan’s other upcoming A24 movie is the comedy-thriller “Sharper,” with Julianne Moore, Justice Smith, and John Lithgow. That movie’s about a con artist who takes on Manatthan’s uber-rich. Long-time TV director Benjamin Caron makes his film directorial debut on that one, with “Sharper” heading to Apple TV+ for its premiere.

So, how shocking will Sebastian Stan’s transformation be in “A Different Man”? The film is currently in production in Manhattan, but expect it out sometime in mid-late 2023.
