Leonardo DiCaprio's Career Advice For Timothée Chalamet? "No Hard Drugs And No Superhero Movies"

After his 2017 star turn in Luca Guadaginino‘s “Call Me By Your Name,” Timothée Chalamet has become Hollywood’s new young heartthrob. And Chalamet’s done a good job bolstering up that reputation with his turns in “Lady Bird,” “The French Dispatch,” and “Dune.” Up next for the actor? Guadagnino’s latest, “Bones And All,” fresh off its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival.

But as Chalamet’s star rose the past few years, he got sage advice from the last generation’s “it boy,” Leonardo DiCaprio. And what did Leo have to say? Variety reports (via British Vogue) that DiCaprio had two recs for Chalamet in one pithy sentence when the pair first crossed paths in 2018: “no hard drugs and no superhero movies.” Since then, the actors worked together last year on Adam McKay’s Don’t Look Up.” Their next potential team-up may just melt the minds of moviegoers everywhere.

DiCaprio is infamously selective about the projects he works on. His last TV role was back in 1992 on “Growing Pains,” well before his breakout role in 1997’s “Titanic.” Since then, the closest he’s come to making a superhero blockbuster has been Christopher Nolan‘s “Inception.”  Alejandro Iñárittu‘s “The Revenant” comes a close second on that list, and that film won DiCaprio his first and only Academy Award. DiCaprio stars next in Martin Scorsese‘s “Killers Of The Flower Moon,” in theaters next year.

As for Chalamet, “Dune” and its upcoming sequel are big-budget blockbusters, but Denis Villeneuve‘s films aren’t quite movies out of the MCU. However, Chalamet’s other upcoming 2023 film, Paul King‘s “Wonka,” a musical about the early days of the fictional candy titan, also grazes blockbuster territory.

But superhero movies are an altogether different beast than blockbusters and musicals. If Chalamet follows DiCaprio’s advice, don’t expect him to team up with Kevin Feige any time soon.
