'Men' New Trailer: Many Rory Kinnears Harass Jessie Buckley In Alex Garland's New Horror Out May 20

How many heady horror movies will 2022 have once the calendar year is over? The genre is already off to a great start this year with Ti West‘s “X,” and there’s even more on the way, like Robert Eggers‘ “The Northman” and Jordan Peele‘s “NOPE.” Add Alex Garland‘s “Men” to that list, as his latest film looks like he’s leaning heavily into highbrow horror.

A teaser for “Men” dropped earlier this year, but it gave away little about the film. Jessie Buckley plays a woman who goes to the country to mourn his husband’s (Paapa Essiedu) recent death, and some men follow her around. Now, the latest trailer offers some extra details. Rory Kinnear plays all of these “men” who harass Buckley, and there’s a sinister, supernatural twist to his presence. Does it have something to do with her husband? The religious symbolism and implications of guilt and gendered violence promise this film will be a worthy addition to 2022’s already stacked list of horror films.

Here’s another synopsis of the film, courtesy of A24:

In the aftermath of a personal tragedy, Harper retreats alone to the beautiful English countryside, hoping to have found a place to heal. But someone or something from the surrounding woods appears to be stalking her. What begins as simmering dread becomes a fully-formed nightmare, inhabited by her darkest memories and fears in visionary filmmaker Alex Garland’s feverish, shape-shifting new horror film.

Garland reunites with cinematographer Rob Hardy and musicians Ben Salisbury and Geoff Barrow on “Men.” All four men worked together on “Devs,” Garland’s TV show on FX On Hulu, and Garland’s previous two films, 2014’s “Ex Machina” and 2018’s “Annihilation.”
