The next event film from Daniels is back on Universal‘s calendar.
THR reports that the still-untitled project will now hit theaters on November 19, 2027. The news comes after the studio pulled the “Everything Everywhere All At Once” follow-up from its initial June 12, 2026 release date back in February. That date now belongs to Steven Spielberg‘s upcoming UFO blockbuster.
So, was the removal of the Daniels’ latest movie from a premier summer release date a sign of trepidation by Universal? Hardly. The new project is the first in a long-term deal the studio signed with the directing pair (Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert) in Summer 2022. Good thing Universal inked that deal, too, as the awards season success of “Everything Everywhere All At Once” catapulted Daniels to directing superstardom.
But since that Oscar-winning film, Daniels haven’t been up to much: just directing some episodes of the “Star Wars” Disney+ series “The Skeleton Crew,” and that’s it. That’s likely because their next film, whatever it is, will be their most ambitious yet. But will lack of budget restraints and the studio system prove to be a sandbox the director don’t like to play in? If there were any details about this project, one could make a prediction. Instead, this movie remains shrouded in mystery for almost another two years.
