'House Of Spoils': Ariana DeBose To Star In Thriller From 'Blow The Man Down' Filmmaking Duo For Amazon/Blumhouse

Thanks to her Oscar-winning performance in “West Side Story,” Ariana DeBose‘s star is on the rise. And the actress’s plate for upcoming movies is already full, with roles in “Kraven The Hunter,” “I.S.S.,” and Matthew Vaughn‘s “Argylle” up ahead. Add another one to the list as DeBose will team up with female filmmaking duo Bridget Savage Cole and Danielle Krudy, the team behind 2019’s “Blow The Man Down,” for a new psychological thriller.

Variety reports that “House Of Spoils” teams Cole & Krudy up with Amazon Studios and Blumhouse Television for a film about an ambitious chef who gets more than she bargained for as she opens her first restaurant. DeBose stars a chef who realizes, amid kitchen chaos, a dubious investor, and crushing self-doubt, that the estate her new restaurant is in is haunted–and the spirit of the former owner will stop at nothing to sabotage her success.

The movie marks the next step in two already successful partnerships. The first is Amazon Prime Video and Blumhouse Television, who already worked together on the “Welcome To The Blumhouse” film series. They also paired up for Nahnatchka Khan‘s upcoming slasher-comedy “Totally Killer,” which just wrapped production. Amazon Prime will also stream Blumhouse’s Sundance Grand Jury Prize winner “Nanny,” Nikyatu Jusu‘s directorial debut, on December 16.

Partnership #2 is between Amazon Studios, Cole & Krudy, and production studio Secret Engine. The trio worked together on “Blow The Man Down” a Tribeca Film Festival smash-hit that won critics over easily. The film went on to win Best Narrative Screenplay at TIFF later that year.

“Since “Blow the Man Down,” we have been huge fans of Bridget and Danielle’s unique filmmaking voice and knew we needed to be a part of whatever they wanted to do next,” said Julie Rapaport, head of movies at Amazon Studios. “Pairing their thrilling script with Ariana’s incredible talent is a dream come true, and we could not be more excited to bring this story to the screen and to our customers around the world.”

Since the success of “Blow The Man Down,” Cole & Krudy have directed episodes of “Moonhaven” and “The Stand.” That makes “House Of Spoils” a most-anticipated follow-up to a critical favorite.

Will Cole & Krudy find magic a second time with Ariana DeBose on “House Of Spoils”? This project is super-intriguing, so let’s hope everyone involved cook up something good.
