'Lioness': Morgan Freeman Joins Taylor Sheridan's Upcoming CIA Drama For Paramount+

Taylor Sheridan‘s upcoming CIA drama series “Lioness” for Paramount+ may be one of his most star-studded projects yet. Deadline reports that Morgan Freeman is the latest to join the cast of the original series joining other A-listers like Zoe Saldaña and Nicole Kidman. Still no word on a release date for the series, though.

“Lioness” follows a real-life CIA program as one of its recruits, Laysla De Oliveira‘s Cruz Manuelos, a young marine, helps bring down a terrorist organization from within. Saldaña plays the program’s head, with Kidman also playing a CIA higher-up. As for Morgan? He plays US Secretary Of State Edwin Mullins on the upcoming series.

The regular season cast for “Lioness” includes Dave AnnableJill WagnerLaMonica GarrettJames Jordan, and Austin Hébert.  Jonah WhartonStephanie Nur, and Hannah Love Lanier round out the main cast. Sheridan, Saldaña, and Kidman serve as co-executive producers on the series. Other executive producers include David C. GlasserRun BurkleBob YariDavid HutkinJill WagnerGeyer KosinskiMicahel Malone, and John Hillcoat.

Now 85, Freeman still work on plenty of film and TV projects. Recent movie roles include “Hitman Wife’s Bodyguard,” “Paradise Highway,” and “The Minute You Wake Up Dead,” with upcoming roles in “A Good Person” and “Muti.” Recent TV roles include “Solos” and “The Komisnky Method.”

“Lioness” sounds increasingly exciting with each bit of casting news, but don’t expect this show to premiere until late 2023 at the earliest. In the meantime, there are still plenty of Taylor Sheridan show to tide fans over, like “1923” and Season 2 of “Mayor Of Kingstown,” which premieres this Sunday, January 15, on Paramount+.
