New 'Black Adam' TV Spot Teases Amanda Waller & Possibly Other DC Heroes In Upcoming Film

Since David Zaslav took over as CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, the future of the DCEU has been in major upheaval. But a new TV spot for “Black Adam,” in theaters next month, may offer a preview of what Zaslav’s new vision for DC’s future is. And from the looks of things, they will be a lot of cross-over between Dwayne Johnson‘s new anti-hero and other DCEU characters.

The new one-minute clip teases that the new film may not only introduce Black Adam and members of the JSA to the DCEU. On top of that, it confirms that Viola Davis will be in the movie as “Suicide Squad” character Amanda Waller in some capacity, and that other characters like Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman may show up, too. Obviously, the clip with Waller may be the only time she shows up in “Black Adam” in what amounts to be a very brief cameo. But her presence nonetheless hints that “Black Adam,” and ostensibly other future DCEU films, will intersect with other DC projects.

Of course, this isn’t the first time this kind of tiny cameo has happened in DC content this year. The final episode of “Peacemaker” saw Justice League members show up in a brief scene. While it’s kind of cool to see Jason Momoa and Ezra Miller (and CGI versions of Henry Cavill and Gil Gadot) show up in an HBO Max show for a few seconds, it didn’t amount to much narratively speaking. There’s a chance that Viola Davis is only in “Black Adam” for a few seconds as well. But her presence at least shows that all of these different DC properties are merging somehow, in the quasi-MCUAvengers” way that’s Zaslav’s ideal vision for the DCEU.

Does that mean Black Adam and JSA members like Hawkman, Doctor Fate, and Atom Smasher may appear in “Shazam! Fury Of The Gods” next year? Maybe, maybe not. There are still a lot of unanswered questions about where the DCEU goes next, especially with the fate of “The Flash” hanging in the balance thanks to Ezra Miller’s issues. But this new TV spot all but confirms that “Black Adam” marks the first definitive step toward David Zaslav’s updated vision of the DCEU. Whether that’s a good or bad thing remains to be seen.

“Black Adam” hits theaters everywhere on October 21. Watch the new TV spot below.
