'The Dropout' Trailer: Amanda Seyfried Plays Disgraced Theranos CEO Elizabeth Holmes In A New March-Bound Hulu Series

What would you do to achieve the heights of fame, fortune, and success touted by American society? For Elizabeth Holmes, the founder and former CEO of Theranos, the answer is simple: commit fraud–and lots of it.

Hulu’s latest original series, “The Dropout,” takes a look at Holmes and her health company’s rapid rise and fall. From ambitious Stanford dropout to billionaire businesswoman to national disgrace, Holmes’ story makes for some riveting serial television.

Here’s the show’s official synopsis:

Money. Romance. Tragedy. Deception. Hulu’s limited series “The Dropout,” the story of Elizabeth Holmes and Theranos, is an unbelievable tale of ambition and fame gone terribly wrong. How did the world’s youngest self-made female billionaire lose it all in the blink of an eye? 

The limited series stars Amanda Seyfried as Holmes and Naveen Andrews as Sunny Bulwani, her Theranos COO and partner in crime. The show also stars William H. Macy, Laurie Metcalf, Elizabeth Marvel, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Kate Burton, and Stephen Fry. Michael Gill, Michael Ironside, Bill Irwin, and Josh Pais are also on board.

Comedian Michael Showalter, creator of the hit series “Search Party” and director of 2017’s “The Big Sick,” directs several episodes for “The Dropout.” The series was originally a Kate McKinnon vehicle, but she left the project in February 2021 for undisclosed reasons.

The first three episodes of “The Dropout” premiere on Hulu on March 3, with new episodes streaming weekly for the remainder of the series. Check out the trailer below.
