Set in a dystopian future where a violent event pits young men against each other, “The Long Walk” is the first novel King ever completed, and one of his early Richard Bachman books. Up-and-comers Cooper Hoffman and David Jonsson star as two of the entries in the titular Walk, forced to test their limits to win the ultimate reward…or pay the ultimate price.
Here’s an official synopsis courtesy of Lionsgate:
Set in a dystopian alternative version of the United States ruled by a totalitarian regime, the story follows 50 young men who sign up for THE LONG WALK, where they walk at a pace of 3 miles per hour until contestants are eliminated one by one and only one winner is left.
Along with Hoffman and Jonsson, the film also stars Garrett Wareing, Tut Nyuot, Charlie Plummer, Ben Wang, Roman Griffin Davis, and Jordan Gonzalez. Joshua Odjick, Josh Hamilton, Judy Greer, and Mark Hamill round out the main cast.
Lawrence directs a script by JT Mollner for “The Long Walk.” Producers on the film include Roy Lee, Steven Schneider, Cameron MacConomy and Lawrence.
“The Long Walk” hits theaters everywhere on September 12 via Lionsgate. Watch the new trailer for the film below.
