'The Smack': Casey Affleck & '1883' Star Isabel May To Star In New Indie Heist Thriller

The Hollywood Reporter has all the scoop on the upcoming film. Based on Richard Lange‘s 1979 novel of the same name, Affleck stars in the movie as a conman who teams up with Jade, a woman with plans of her own, to head to LA for a big-time score that goes sour fast. May plays Affleck’s estranged daughter in the film, while Marisa Tomei is on board to play his ex-wife.

“The Smack” will be Rosenthal’s follow-up to “No Limit,” which just hit Netflix last week. Rosenthal’s other work includes the 2019 “Jacob’s Ladder” remake, “How It Ends,” and “The Perfect Guy.”  Keith Kjarval and actor Sam Rockwell are on board as producers.

“1883” may be May’s big breakout role, but “The Smack” isn’t her first starring role in a feature film. She also stars in Amazon‘s “I Want You Back” from earlier this year and 2020’s “Run Hide Fight.” May started off as a child actor on Netflix’s “Alexa & Katie” and CBS‘s “Young Sheldon” before “1883” put Hollywood on notice of her emerging talent. Meanwhile, “Dreamin’ Wild” just premiered at TIFF for Affleck, and he also has upcoming roles in “Oppenheimer” and “Slingshot.”

So, will “The Smack” be a star-making turn for Isabel May? The movie head into production next month, so expect it to hit theaters/streaming sometime next year.
