Brace yourselves, movie audiences: a new “Cliffhanger” movie is on the way. But the upcoming reboot isn’t the same concept that once had Sylvester Stallone returning and Ana Lily Amirpour attached to direct. It turns out Stallone isn’t back after all, and Amirpour’s out behind the camera, although her all-female story is still the basis of the script.
Instead Jaume Collet-Serra directs Lily James and Pierce Brosnan in the starring roles of the action reboot. Collet-Serra has some high-octane background in his filmography, as he’s also directed “The Shallows,” “Run All Night,” and “The Commuter” among other things. Other cast in the film include Nell Tiger Free, Franz Rogowski, Shubham Saraf, Assaad Bouab, Suzy Bemba, and Bruno Gouery.
Here’s an official synopsis for “Cliffhanger,” courtesy of Rocket Science:
“In this reboot of Cliffhanger, seasoned mountaineer Ray Cooper (Pierce Brosnan) and his daughter Sydney run a mountain chalet in the Dolomites. During a weekend trip with a billionaire’s son, they are targeted by a gang of kidnappers. Ray’s older daughter Naomi (Lily James), still haunted by a past climbing accident, witnesses the attack and escapes. To save her family, she must confront her fears and fight for survival in the Italian Dolomites.”
Producers on “Cliffhanger” include Lar Sylvest via Thank You Pictures, Joe Neurauter of Supernix, Thorsten Schumacher via Rocket Science, and Neal Moritz and Tobby Jaffe.
An international production, “Cliffhanger” is shooting on location in Austria now, so expect it in theaters sometime next year. Check out first look pics from the film below.
