After two early wins at the European Film Awards, it’s all but guaranteed that Magnus von Horn‘s movie may get the nod from the Academy. But US audiences are in for a taut, chilling ride when they sit down for “The Girl With The Needle.” The post-WWI drama is several things at once: a historical thriller; a dark fairy tale; and a serial killer movie.
Inspired by a true story and directed by Magnus von Horn, THE GIRL WITH THE NEEDLE follows Karoline, a young factory worker, as she is struggling to survive in post WW1 Copenhagen. When she finds herself unemployed, abandoned and pregnant, she meets Dagmar, a charismatic woman running an underground adoption agency, helping mothers to find foster homes for their unwanted children. With nowhere else to turn, Karoline takes on the role of a wet-nurse. A strong connection is formed between the two women, but Karoline’s world shatters when she stumbles upon the shocking truth behind her work.
“The Girl With The Needle” stars Vic Carmen Sonne, Trine Dyrholm, Besir Zeciri, and Joachim Fjelstrup. Tessa Hoder, Avo Knox Martin, Anders Hove, and Ari Alexander round out the main cast.
Magnus von Horn directs a script by him and Line Langebeck. Producers on the film include Malene Blenkov and Mariusz Wlodarski. Crew on “The Girl With The Needle” includes “EO” cinematographer Michael Dymek. Von Horn’s film also recently won two European Film Awards for Best Production Design (Jagna Dobesz) and Best Original Score (Frederikke Hoffmeier).
“The Girl With The Needle” hits US theaters on December 6. Watch the trailer for the historical thriller below.
