No Madonna biopic? No problem for Diablo Cody. Instead of tackling the pop icon’s life story for the big screen, the screenwriter returns to genre comedy for the first time since 2009’s “Jennifer’s Body” for her latest script. That’s a long time away from horror, but hey, at least “Lisa Frankenstein” isn’t 2013’s “Paradise,” Cody’s first (and only) foray into directing.

Instead, Zelda Williams, scion of the late, great Robin Williams, helms her feature debut with Cody’s new screenplay. And “Lisa Frankenstein” is a hybrid of teen movie, horror film, and Mary Shelley‘s classic 1818 novel. In the film, Kathryn Newton stars as a high school outsider who finds love in the most unlikely source: a reanimated corpse.

A coming of RAGE love story from acclaimed writer Diablo Cody (Jennifer’s Body) about a misunderstood teenager and her high school crush, who happens to be a handsome corpse. After a set of playfully horrific circumstances bring him back to life, the two embark on a murderous journey to find love, happiness… and a few missing body parts along the way.
“Lisa Frankenstein” also stars Cole Sprouse, Liza Soberano, Henry Eikenberry, Joe Chrest, and Carla Gugino. Producers on the film include Mason Novick and Cody.
