James Gunn Says DC Film Plan Is On 8-10 Year Timeline & Refutes No 'Wonder Woman' For 3 Years Claim

Yesterday, Variety published a piece about what plans DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran have for the DCU‘s immediate future. But this morning, Gunn took to Twitter to dismiss some of the publication’s claims, including the future of Wonder Woman and Ezra Miller staying on as The Flash.

The biggest news in Variety’s piece may be that Gunn and Safran will detail their plans for the cinematic universe later this month. Variety claims it’s a “three-year interconnected vision” that doesn’t include Superman or Wonder Woman. On top of that, Variety also noted that Warner Bros. execs remain open to working with Miller as The Flash again since the actor has stayed out of trouble after entering mental health treatment last summer. But that’s not quite right, according to Gunn, who debunked the rumors in a couple of tweets.

“I don’t know what’s out there about Ezra but our slate is 8 to 10 years (but we will only be announcing some of it this month),” Gunn tweeted in response to Miller’s future in the DCU. As for Wonder Woman not being part of the DCU’s immediate plans at all, Gunn replied, “I hereby debunk it (only because it’s not true).” So, while not a lot of info, Gunn’s response clarifies the timeline he and Safran envision to rebuild the DCU. This month’s announcement may indeed reference only the next three years of DCU content, but Gunn and Safran’s outlook spans a decade. And that makes sense given the major overhaul the pair is doing, but it’s nice to see Gunn continue to respond to fans’ queries.

So, no definitive news on the DCU’s future yet, but Gunn confirms that no Wonder Woman in the upcoming years is not true. As for Ezra Miller’s assured future as The Flash, there’s nothing definitive there either; but expect Gunn and Safran to acknowledge that as “The Flash” approaches its June 16 release date. But Variety’s piece yesterday drives home a dual lesson for DC fans: don’t believe everything you read in the trades, and be thankful that James Gunn takes time out of his schedule to debunk rumors on social media.
