Need a droll, breezy British murder mystery to watch as summer comes to an end? Look no further than “The Thursday Murder Club,” set to premiere on Netflix at the end of the month.

Starring Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley, and Celia Imrie, the film follows a group of septuagenarian amateur sleuths who set out to solve a local murder. Oh, and it’s based on Richard Osman‘s bestselling 2020 novel, the first in a series of four (soon to be five) books. So, if “The Thursday Murder Club” is a hit for Netflix, expect this whole troupe to be back for a sequel.
Here’s an official synopsis for the mystery comedy, courtesy of Netflix:
Based on Richard Osman’s international bestselling novel of the same name, The Thursday Murder Club follows four irrepressible retirees – Elizabeth (Helen Mirren), Ron (Pierce Brosnan), Ibrahim (Ben Kingsley) and Joyce (Celia Imrie) – who spend their time solving cold case murders for fun. When an unexplained death occurs on their own doorstep, their casual sleuthing takes a thrilling turn as they find themselves with a real whodunit on their hands. Directed by Chris Columbus, the film is the latest to be produced through the Netflix and Amblin Entertainment partnership.
“The Thursday Murder Club” also stars Naomi Ackie, Daniel Mays, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Tom Ellis, Jonathan Pryce, and David Tennant. Paul Freeman, Geoff Bell, Richard E. Grant, and Ingrid Oliver round out the main cast.
Chris Columbus directs an adapted screenplay by Katy Brand and Suzanne Heathcote for the film. Producers include Jennifer Todd and Columbus. Executive producers include Jo Burn, Richard Osman, Eleanor Columbus, Holly Bario, and Jeb Brody.
