'Scream 6': Samara Weaving & Tony Revolori Join The Cast Of The Slasher Sequel

It looks like Ghostface has a couple of more victims to slice and dice. And one of the new faces joining “Scream 6” has worked with directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett before: “Ready Or Not” star Samara Weaving.

Bloody-Disgusting reports that Weaving joins the sequel’s cast after Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett first wanted her in “Scream,” their installment in the slasher franchise from earlier this year. Weaving couldn’t do that film because of scheduling conflicts, though, so “Scream 6” will have to do. Better yet: she’s joined by “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and “The Grand Budapest Hotel” star Tony Revolori. “Scream 6” is Revolori’s first foray into the horror genre if you don’t count his voice work in the 2020 thriller “Run.” Weaving, of course, also has Netflix‘s “The Babysitter” and its sequel, subtitled “Killer Queen,” under her horror belt along with “Ready Or Not.”

The pair join Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, and burgeoning scream queen Jenna Ortega, who all reprise their roles from “Scream.” Previously announced newcomers include Dermot Mulroney, Jack Champion, Liana Liberato, Devyn Nekoda, and Josh Segarra.

But the biggest news about “Scream 6” so far is that Neve Campbell won’t be back as Sidney Prescott. She cites contract disputes with Spyglass Media for her departure. Sad news for “Scream” fans, but Courtney Cox at least returns as fan-favorite Gale Weathers. And also of note: Hayden Panetierre also returns for “Scream 6,” reprising her role as Kirby Reed from 2011’s “Scream 4.”

Here’s a logline for the upcoming sequel:

The Scream saga continues with the four survivors of the Ghostface killings as they leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter.

A “Scream” movie not in Woodsboro? Is that horror movie blasphemy? Difficult to say for certain, but the franchise is in good hands with Bettinelli-Olpin & Gillett at the helm. “Scream” made $140 million in the global box office earlier this year, and critics actually liked it a great deal. So, maybe messing a bit with the franchise’s formula with a new setting is a risk worth taking.

“Scream 6” has a tentative release date of March 23, 2023.
