'The Flash': Sasha Calle On Getting Henry Cavill's Approval Of Her As Supergirl: "It Meant The World"

In just two weeks, Andy Muschietti‘s “The Flash” dashes into theaters, ushering in the multiverse into the DCEU. The synopsis for the film? After Ezra Miller‘s Barry Allen goes back in time in an attempt to save his parents from getting murdered, he changes the present into one where superheroes he knows no longer exist. To correct his timeline, Barry has to join forces with other heroes, including himself, to get things back on track.

And among these new heroes?  Sasha Calle‘s Supergirl, and EW reports that Calle was overjoyed when she received approval from Henry Cavill, Clark Kent/Superman himself, for her turn as the character. “Yes, I met him,” Calle excitedly told EW. “I met him actually after the movie was done, months later. I gave him a big hug. You know, it’s Henry Cavill, man! Our Man of Steel. He is kind and very proper, and it was a great experience.” Cavill’s Superman is one of the several heroes eliminated in Barry’s mistake, so he doesn’t show up in “The Flash” at all.

So is Calle a suitable replacement for Cavill in the upcoming film? “I asked him, ‘Did I make you proud, cuz? Does Superman approve?'” Calle went on. “And he was like, ‘Absolutely. You did a phenomenal job.’ I think, to me, that meant the world, because it’s Henry Cavill, Man of Steel.” Miller’s Barry Allen also joins forces with Michael Keaton‘s Bruce Wayne/Batman in the alternate timelines, as well as some other surprising cameos that got leaked last month.

But Cavill isn’t in the new film, and his tenure as Superman is over after four appearances as the character, including a cameo in last year’s “Black Adam.” The actor believed he was coming back to reprise the role last October, but that was before James Gunn and Peter Safran were named the new heads of DC Studios. Now there’s a new Superman for Gunn’s upcoming “Superman: Legacy,” which kicks off the DCU and its first chapter “Gods And Monsters.” A bummer for Cavill, but he has other projects lined up, like his “Warhammer” series at Amazon and Matthew Vaughn‘s ‘Argylle.”

As for Gunn, he clarified during the announcement of the new DCU that he and Safran didn’t fire Cavill, it’s just that plans changed. “We didn’t fire Henry,” Gunn said. “Henry was never cast… I like Henry, I think he’s a great guy. I think he’s getting dicked around by a lot of people, including the former regime at this company. But this Superman is not Henry, for a number of reasons.” As for when “Superman: Legacy” hits theaters, and who will replace Cavill as Superman in that film, who knows?

But “The Flash” hits theaters everywhere on June 16, so get ready for that, DC fans.
