David Fincher‘s “The Killer” is undoubtedly one of 2023’s most anticipated movies. It’s Fincher’s first film since 2020’s “Mank,” marks a reunion with “Se7en” scribe Andrew Kevin Walker, and sees him direct Michael Fassbender for the first time.
And “The Killer” now also marks a reunion between Fincher and Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross, who are now officially on board to score the film. This marks the fifth straight time the three work together, with Reznor and Ross scoring every one of Fincher’s films since 2010’s “The Social Network.” The pair won two Academy Awards for Best Original Score for “The Social Network” and Pixar‘s “Soul” in 2020. So maybe “The Killer” will provide Oscar #3?
“The Killer” stars Fassbender as an assassin who develops a conscience and begins cracking up in his line of work. Walker adapts a French graphic novel series of the same name by Alexis Nolent for the film. The movie also stars Charles Parnell, Arliss Howard, Sophie Charlotte, and Tilda Swinton. Erik Messerschmidt, who worked with Fincher on “Mank” and Netflix‘s “Mindhunter,” is the film’s cinematographer.
Fans weren’t sure if “The Killer” would drop on Netflix this year, but the streamer confirmed it in their 2023 Films Preview trailer in January. Now that Reznor and Ross are on board, there’s never more cause for excitement. Of course, after four straight movies working together, did anyone think they wouldn’t return to work with Fincher again? Still, glad it’s confirmed, and all the more reason for cinephiles to pencil November 10 on their calendars: “The Killer” cannot come soon enough.
