At long last, almost two years after its world premiere, Macon Blair’s “The Toxic Avenger” remake finally hits theaters at the end of this summer. Well, because this remake of the ’80s cult film series is extremely graphic, so gratuitous in its gore, in fact, that some critics deemed it unreleasable to the wider public. Thankfully for gorehounds, Cineverse and Iconic Events Releasing have teamed up to make a theatrical release for the film happen, and they have a new red-band trailer ready to show off what “The Toxic Avenger” has in store for audiences.
Here’s an official synopsis for “The Toxic Avenger,” courtesy of Cineverse:
In THE TOXIC AVENGER, when a downtrodden janitor, Winston Gooze, is exposed to a catastrophic toxic accident, he’s transformed into a new kind of hero: The Toxic Avenger. Now, Toxie must rise from outcast to savior, taking on ruthless corporate overlords and corrupt forces who threaten his son, his friends, and his community. In a world where greed runs rampant… justice is best served radioactive.
Along with Dinklage, “The Toxic Avenger” also stars Kevin Bacon, Elijah Wood, Taylour Paige, Jacob Tremblay, and Jane Levy.
Blair writes, directs, and produces the film, which includes Mary Parent, Alex Garcia, Lloyd Kaufman, and Michael Herz.
“The Toxic Avenger” had its world premiere at Fantastic Fest 2023 as the festival’s opening-night film. That year, the film also screened at Beyond Fest and the Sitges Film Festival.
Check out the red band trailer below. Blair’s reboot finally hits U.S. theaters on August 29.
