Expect this to be one of Netflix‘s buzzier 2026/2027, based on everyone involved.
Deadline reports that Charles Melton, Rachel Brosnahan, and Will Poutler will star in “Saturn Return,” a Chicago-set romance exploring the themes of love, loss, and life’s complicated turns for three twentysomethings over ten years. Greg Kwedar directs the film, and revises a script from Gaelyn Golde with “Train Dreams” director Clint Bentley (Kwedar and Bentley adapted “Train Dreams” from Denis Johnson‘s novella together).
“Saturn Return” comes in the wake of Netflix snatching up “Train Dreams” after its acclaimed world premiere at Sundance earlier this year. Plan B will produce the project, with Emily Wolfe also involved on the production side of things. It’s also, in a way, a reunion between Netflix and Melton, who had a breakout performance in Todd Haynes‘ “May December” for the streamer two years ago. Since then, the former “Riverdale” actor did Alex Garland‘s “Warfare” over at A24, as well as Nicolas Winding Refn‘s first film in a decade, “Her Private Hell.” The latter should get a festival world premiere next year.
As for Brosnahan, she’s coming off “Superman,” which kicked off the DCU and took in $611 million at the global box office. A sequel was announced this week for Summer 2027. The actress also recently starred in “The Amateur” opposite Rami Malek.
Meanwhile, Poulter also starred in “Warfare” with Melton, and in another A24 pic, “Death Of A Unicorn.” Up next for the actor? “I Love Boosters” over at NEON.
