‘Man Of Tomorrow’: James Gunn Announces ‘Superman’ Sequel Heading To Theaters On July, 9, 2027 & Lex Luthor Getting Warsuit

Well, this is a huge surprise, but James Gunn has taken to social media to officially announce that his “Superman” sequel, titled “Man of Tomorrow,” is set to be released in theaters on July 9, 2027.

The post also features Jim Lee artwork (head of DC Comics and a beloved artist in his own right) with Superman baddie Lex Luthor finally wearing his warsuit, a tech-based mechanized outfit that allows him to go toe-to-toe with Kryptonians. What we have to assume will be showing up in “Man of Tomorrow” and allows Luthor actor Nicholas Hoult to get more involved with action scenes in this second installment.

We don’t often see sequels come together this quickly, but Gunn has telegraphed that his “Superman” sequel would be ready to go in front of cameras next year, potentially before Matt Reeves‘ “The Batman Part II” (shooting in April), which is set to hit theaters after “Man of Tomorrow” on October 1, 2027.

There have been hints by Gunn that Milly Alock‘s Supergirl, Edi Gathegi‘s Mister Terrific, and the rest of The Justice Gang will have an involvement, as we’ve assumed this is going to continue to expand the relationships between the heroic collective.

David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan will, of course, reprise Clark Kent and Lois Lane in the follow-up as well after the reboot has earned $611.6 million at the global box office, as the second pic has been officially greenlit by Warner Bros. brass.

That said, the next big DCU movie tentatively heading to theaters is Alcock’s “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” on June 26, 2026, and features former “Aquaman” actor Jason Momoa in the role of alien bounty hunter, Lobo.

Stay tuned for casting announcements and new characters, as we have to assume villains like Brainiac might be in the mix after Gunn had revealed he was once considered using the cosmic threat baddie in the recent installment.
