Not interested in HBO‘s Fall releases like “IT: Welcome To Derry” and “The Chair Company“? Well, maybe HBO Max has something more enticing on offer, like “The Seduction,” a new take on Pierre Choderlos de Laclos‘ legendary French novel that’s the source material for “Cruel Intentions.”

Based on the 1782 espitolary novel “Les Liaisons Dangeruses,” adapted several times before, the new HBO Max series follows a young woman’s determined to wield all the power she can as Paris’ most desired courtesan.
Here’s an official synopsis for “The Seduction,” courtesy of HBO:
‘To be the hero of your own story, you sometimes have to be the villain in others’. Marquise de Merteuil, betrayed by Valmont, embarks on a daring journey to become Paris’ leading courtesan. Freely adapted from the novel “Les Liaisons Dangereuses” by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos, a thrilling exploration of the price of emotional and sexual freedom in a world where women had little.
“The Seduction” stars Anamaria Vartolomei, Diane Kruger, Vincent Lacoste, Lucas Bravo, Noée Abita, and Julien de Saint-Jean. Fantine Harduin, Samuel Kircher, and Sandrine Blancke round out the main cast.
Jessica Palud directs “The Seduction,” and shares writing credits on the series with Jean-Baptiste Delafon (episodes 1, 2, and 6) and Gaëlee Bellan (episode 1). Delafon serves as creator on the series. Producers include NABI Productions and Felicita Films.
“The Seduction” premieres on HBO Max on November 14, with new episodes premiering weekly through December 19. Watch a trailer for the series below.
