‘Monday’ Trailer: Hot Summer Nights Await Sebastian Stan & Denise Gough In New Summer Romance

Movies cannot provide their usual sense of escape with the COVID-19 pandemic still going on, but maybe with the vaccine in sight, one film about a wild weekend romance on the beaches of Athens will help tide things over until summer hits. That’s what Argyris Papadimitropoulos offers audiences in his latest film, “Monday.”

Alongside Sebastian Stan and Denise Gough, “Monday” also stars Dominique Tipper, Yorgos Pirpassopoulos, and Elli Tringou.  The film is also the first directed by Papadimitropoulos since 2016’s “Suntan.” Best known as a producer in the Greek film industry, Papadimitropoulos also co-wrote the film.

Mickey (Sebastian Stan) and Chloe (Denise Gough), two Americans in their mid-thirties living in Athens, meet in the heat of summer one whirlwind weekend. The chemistry between them is undeniable. When Chloe’s time in Greece is drawing to a close, she decides to give up her high-flying job back home and explore whether one weekend’s passion can blossom into something more. Argyris Papadimitropoulos’ follow-up of the festival sensation Suntan is a fun, sensuous romance about how love gets in the way of life, and life gets in the way of love.

“Monday” was initially supposed to premiere at Tribeca Film Festival last April, but COVID’s rapid takeover forced the festival to postpone. Instead, the film had its world premiere at TIFF last September, where IFC picked up distribution rights.
