'Paper Girls' Trailer: Four Girls Get Caught Up In A Time-Travel War In New Amazon Prime Series This July

The last TV adaptation of a Brian K. Vaughn comic book, FX On Hulu‘s “Y: The Last Man,” had been long anticipated by fans. But the show didn’t click with critics or audiences, so FX canceled the show last year after only one season. Maybe the next one will fare better: Amazon Prime‘s take on Vaughn’s award-winning book from the 2010s, “Paper Girls.”

The new show follows four 12-year-old girls caught in a war between time-travelers while delivering papers the morning after Halloween night in 1988. So, it sounds like this show fits right within the nostalgic wheelhouse of “Stranger Things,” or plays like a “Stand By Me” with a sci-fi twist.

Here’s the show’s official synopsis, courtesy of Amazon:

Paper Girls follows four young girls who, while out delivering papers on the morning after Halloween in 1988, become unwittingly caught in a conflict between warring factions of time-travelers, sending them on an adventure through time that will save the world. As they travel between our present, the past, and the future – they encounter future versions of themselves and now must choose to embrace or reject their fate.

Sofia Rosinksy, Camryn Jones, Riley Lai Nelet, and Fina Strazza star as the four paper girls. Ali Wong and Nate Corddry also star.

Thanks to his work on “Lost” and “Under The Dome,” Vaughn is no stranger to TV production. He co-executive produces “Paper Girls” as he did with “Y: The Last Man.”  Cliff Chiang, the illustrator of the “Paper Girls” comic, also serves as an executive producer. Joining them are the “Halt And Catch Fire” duo of Christopher Cantwell and Christopher C. Rogers, and Dede Gardner and Brad Pitt, through Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment.

So, which fate will the Paper Girls choose? Find out on July 29, when “Paper Girls” premieres on Amazon Prime. Watch the teaser for the show below.
