‘Greenland 2: Migration’ Trailer: Gerard Butler & Morena Baccarin Need To Survive Doomsday Again In Upcoming Sequel

Gerard Butler is firmly in that stage of his career. Y’know, that one where an A-lister starts making B-tier films more often and to mixed results. To be honest, Butler’s pivot into this territory hasn’t been half bad. “Den of Thieves” and its recent sequel “Pantera” are solid heist movies, while stuff like “Plane” and “Copshop” have a perennial audience for those who like their actioners with as few frills as possible.

And then there’s “Greenland,” the post-apocalyptic disaster movie from 2020 starring Butler, a film that barely made waves when it hit theaters. Sure, its low box office numbers may be due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and critics liked it well enough, but was this ever a movie that needed a sequel? Apparently, Lionsgate thinks so, and they have Butler and Morena Baccarin returning to deal with the aftermath of the first film’s cataclysmic comet strike.

Here’s an official synopsis for “Greenland 2: Migration,” courtesy of Lionsgate:

In the aftermath of a comet strike that decimated most of the Earth, GREENLAND 2: MIGRATION follows the Garrity family as they’re forced to leave the safety of their bunker in Greenland to traverse a shattered world in search of a new home.

Along with Butler and Baccarin, “Greenland 2: Migration” also stars Roman Griffin Davis, Amber Rose Revah, Sophie Thompson, Trond Fausa Aurvåg, and William Abadie.

Ric Roman Waugh returns to direct the sequel to his 2020 film. Chris Sparling also returns to co-pen the sequel’s script with Mitchell LaFortune. “Migration” is Waugh and Butler’s fourth film together, after “Angel Has Fallen,” “Greenland,” and 2023’s “Kandahar.”

Producers on “Migration” include Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, Butler, Alan Siegel, Sebastien Raybaud, Brendon Boyea, and Waugh.

“Greenland 2: Migration” hits theaters on January 9. Watch a trailer for the film below.
