'Being The Ricardos' Trailer: Aaron Sorkin's Lucille Balle/Desi Arnaz Biopic Slides Into A Late 2021 Release

After the positive critical reaction to “The Trial Of The Chicago 7” last year, it’s clear that Aaron Sorkin‘s transition from screenwriter to writer/director is officially a success. Of course, whether he’s a good director is still up for debate, but that’s a topic for a different time. So what’s next for the man behind “The West Wing,” “The Social Network,” and “A Few Good Men?” A passion project that Sorkin first announced back in 2015.

Being The Ricardos” follows married couple Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz over a week during the production of their famous ’50s sitcom “I Love Lucy.” Between Monday’s script read and Friday’s shoot in front of a studio audience, the pair face crises that could jeopardize both their careers and their marriage. The biopic will reportedly also have a musical element and feature four different song and dance numbers.

Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem star as Ball and Arnaz, respectively. The stellar cast includes J.K. Simmons, Alia Shawkat, Nina Arianda, Jake Lacy, and Tony Hale.  The film also stars Clark Gregg, Nelson Franklin, John Rubenstein, Linda Lavin, Robert Pine, and Christopher Denham.

“Ricardos” is Sorkin’s third writing/directing joint effort after last year’s “Chicago 7” and 2017’s “Molly’s Game.” Editor Alan Baumgarten, who worked with Sorkin on his previous two features, returns to this film. The same goes for Daniel Pemberton, who scored both of Sorkin’s last two films.  Jeff Cronenweth, best known for his work with David Fincher on “The Social Network” and other films, is the cinematographer.

Amazon Studios acquired the rights for “Being The Ricardos” back in August 2017, so they must sense Sorkin has a hit on his hands. How will the acclaimed screenwriter’s evolution into filmmaker develop with this new project? Audiences will find out sooner than expected. Amazon Studios will release “Being The Ricardos” in cinemas on December 10, 2021, and globally on Prime Video December 21, 2021. Check out its teaser trailer below.
