'Violet' Trailer: Justine Bateman's Film About A Woman On The Edge Opens October 29

Most people are familiar with Justine Bateman for her roles on TV shows like “Family Ties,” “Desperate Housewives,” and “Californication.” Others may know her from her short cameo roles on “Arrested Development,” too, where she acted alongside her younger brother Jason Bateman.

Now, Bateman makes her feature film directing debut with “Violet,” coming to theaters and VOD this Fall. The film stars Olivia Munn as a female film executive who wrestles with anxiety and self-doubt as she navigates the male-dominated spheres of her career.

Here’s a synopsis from the film’s international premiere at TIFF last month:

A Los Angeles–based film executive, Violet has worked arduously to gain status in an industry still dominated by older white men, often at the expense of her dignity and taste. Nowhere is this more apparent than in her relationship with her boss, who exerts his power by regularly humiliating her in front of clients. Violet presents as confident, chilly, even callous, but inside her, a cauldron of desperate anxieties is on the brink of boiling over.

Alongside Munn, “Violet” also stars Justin Theroux, Luke Bracey, and Dennis BoutsikarisErica Ash, Lauren San Giacomo, Bonnie Bedelia, Todd Stashwick, Zachary Gordon, and Peter Jacobson also star in the film.

“Violet” had its world premiere at South By Southwest in March before its international premiere last month at TIFF on September 9.
