Netflix is back to doing what they do best, crowd-pleasing comedic films, and has announced a new romantic comedy, “Office Romance,” from director Ol Parker, who isn’t new to the genre after helming “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.”
Casting on “Office Romance” is shaping up nicely as the streaming giant revealed most of the names on the call-sheet.
Jennifer Lopez (“Hustlers”), Brett Goldstein (“Ted Lasso”), and Betty Gilpin (“GLOW”) lead the new flick, which boasts serious star power. Lopez previously starred in Netflix’s big sci-fi flick “Atlas” and their action thriller “The Mother.” She’s also not unfamiliar with the world of rom-coms, with Steven Soderbergh‘s fun jailbreak flick “Out of Sight,” “Maid In Manhattan,” “Marry Me,” and “Shogun Wedding.”
Another exciting aspect about the romantic comedy is that it reteams Lopez with veteran actor Edward James Olmos (“Battlestar Galactica”), who originally played her father in the 1997 film “Selena,” and will once again portray her onscreen father. A reunion that we’re going to be primed to see come together for the streaming flick.
The newly announced additions to the cast include Bradley Whitford, Amy Sedaris, Tony Hale, Rick Hoffman, Jodie Whittaker, Mary Wiseman, Tony Plana, Roger Bart, Natalie Ortega, Jackie Sandler, Michelle Hurd, Mo Welch, Donald Elise Watkins, Brian Gallivan, Ali Stroker, Scott Seiss, Lisa Gilroy, and Will Sasso.
A brief synopsis had been previously released by Netflix and reads:
“Jackie (Lopez), President and CEO of Air Cruz, runs a tight ship in her business, including a rigid anti-fraternization policy for all her employees. When a new sexy lawyer (Goldstein) begins working for her, that policy becomes very tested.”
“Everyday I come to work to do a rom-com with Jennifer Lopez and this incredible cast, and I expect people to jump out and tell me I’m being pranked. Hasn’t happened yet, so maybe this is real?” Goldstein said in an official statement about the new film that he co-wrote with Joe Kelly.
Aaron Ryder, Andrew Swett, Lopez, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, Benny Medina, Goldstein, Kelly, Pamela Thur, and Courtney Baxter make up the producing team.
We’re still waiting on when they hope to drop “Office Romance” on the streaming service for subscribers.
