Stephanie Hsu (“Everything Everywhere All At Once”), Guy Pearce (“The Brutalist,” “The Dog Stars”), and Hannah Waddingham (“The Fall Guy,” “Ted Lasso”) have been tapped to lead the cast of the San Francisco-set bank heist thriller “The Teller.” In the movie, Hsu is set to play a bank teller who is thrust into a criminal conspiracy by an FBI agent to help rob her own bank.
As reported by Deadline, the gestating pic heading to the Cannes Film Market also marks the directorial debut of Ben Ripley, the screenwriter of the fantastic Duncan Jones-directed and Jake Gyllenhaal-starring sci-fi action thriller “Source Code.”

The synposis mentioned by the outlet states that the film “will tell the story of Violet, an overlooked bank teller whose life takes a turn when a rogue FBI agent manipulates her into robbing her own bank, but the heist is just the opening move in a much bigger con.”
Altitude is overseeing the international sales and introducing the project to buyers at the market event (takes place alongside the Cannes Film Festival), as CAA Media Finance and Verve Ventures will handle the domestic rights. Producers on the film include Martin Brennan (“Worldbreaker”) for Teller Films UK alongside Jessica Malanaphy (“Look Both Ways”) and Samantha Shear (“Shades Of Ray”).
“The Teller” is described as being similar to crime thrillers such as “The Usual Suspects” and “The Town.” The United Kingdom/Irish production is aiming to shoot in Northern Ireland in the fall. Pearce, a recent Best Supporting Actor Oscar nominee, isn’t a stranger to the genre with credits like the Oscar-winner “L.A. Confidential” and the bootlegging pic “Lawless.”
